Had a tiring day yesterday. Went for English tutorial with HuiMin. The tutor came from England. I felt that the tutorial was rather boring and we didn't learn anything except discussed some examples of Language Play. Hmm... Then went for Malay Studies tutorial alone. Sat there and stoned for the entire lesson because I couldn't follow the "debate" that some of the people were holding with the tutor. Met WenXiu, Keith and GimYong for lunch after my tutorials. Ate Laksa again! Gosh, I'm really getting fatter as days go by. Stayed in school to wait for the Malay Studies function which starts at 7pm. It's organised by the Turkish Embassy, Turkish Cultural Centre and NUS.

The function wasn't really as interesting as I expected. We had free Turkish food before the whole seminar started. I'm sorry to say that but I felt that the food was disgusting. Ok, maybe I am not used to the smell and taste. I can't believe Yingfen actually finished her whole plate!

Turkish food...

Haha... Anyway, after dinner was the start of the lectures given by the Prof of NUS Malay Studies Department and another person whose name I didn't catch. The aim of the whole thing was to create greater awareness and deeper understanding of Sufism. Sufism is the core of Islam and was introduced by this guy called Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi and this year is the 800th anniversary of his birth. After the lectures began the highlight of the day - Performance by the Faith Sema Group! The Sema ceremony is not a performance actually. In fact, it is considered a ritual for worshipping God. I took 2 photos of them!

They were making music and singing at the beginning...

'Whirling'. Can you believe it? They actually swirled around like that for almost 20 minutes without stopping?! Wonder how long they practice everyday to attain such skill. This whirling process symbolises the earth rotating around the axis. And when Rumi was whirling in the past, he was in a "spiritual intoxication" and was able to spew out verses from the Qu'ran. Interesting!

Everything ended around 10pm and I reached home at 11pm. Was really tired! Anyway, it was quite an experience at the function. Had a better understanding of Islam and the Turkish culture. University life is really enriching. =)

__ Thursday, August 30, 2007 ;

Past few days have been rather draining. Tutorials have started and I can't keep up with all the readings. Plus I need to start on my research for the psychology mid term paper soon. The stress is seriously building up intensely. Sigh!

Went to attend the Research Participation Programme for the first time. It was a totally boring and tiring session! I had to complete 100 over questions on the questionaire, 8 comprehension passages, memorise 20 pair of words, and guess the emotions of 42 faces of people. Went through all these just to get 3 points?! And I have to get 12 points by year end to meet the requirements! Sigh! I've signed up for another experiment next week. Hope it'll be better and not so torturous. Haiz...

It's going to be a long day later. I can only go home at 10pm because of the Turkish seminar which is compulsory for all Malay Studies students. Sigh! The only consolation is that there will be Turkish food provided for us during dinner time. Heh. It better be delicious.

It's been 2 weeks.
I'm still waiting for an answer from God.
God, are You there?

I'm looking forward for Recess week which is like 3 weeks from now. I need a break ah!

Went to watch this musical called "If there are seasons" at the National Library last Saturday. It was a treat by Aunty Swee Lan again. The musical is based on the songs written by Singaporean songwriter Liang Wen Fook. Thought there were too many songs and the storyline was a bit confusing at the beginning. Anyway, the lead actor is George Chan, that Dancefloor judge. No wonder I found him so familiar at the start. A pleasant musical on the overall. :)

If there are seasons...

I went to buy a book from Life Bookstore yesterday. It's called "Mental Illnesses and Demonization". Can't wait to start on it though the contents are a bit eerie. Heh.. I'm currently reading "From third world to first world" - The memoirs of Lee Kuan Yew. Ok, I know I'm a bit slow but it's never too late to start. Haha.. It's a very good and inspiring book, I feel! Lee Kuan Yew has certainly done so much for Singapore and without him, I don't think we can where we are now!

Was studying that chim Psychology till 2am in the morning and I feel a sense of achievement! Now I know a little bit more about the brain and function of neurons. Haha.. But I'm still left with 2 readings for Malay Studies. Have to finish it before the lecture later in the afternoon. And there's this research to do on false memory. Sian.. Just when I thought I could slow down and relax a while, the lecturers post up assignments again. Welcome to uni life! :(

Weekends are here once again! Time seems to pass very quickly when things get busy. Hmmm... But it's not going to be a relaxing weekend for me with all the tutorials and readings to do. Argh! To think people once told me that uni life is going to be a breeze. I think it's more like a thunderstorm eh. =X

Anyway, social work lecture today was fun! I made a new friend and coincidentally, she's going to the same tutorial group as me! Thank God I finally know someone and I won't be alone next week. :)

Met Dawn in school today too. She was briefing me about the activities and programmes in Campus Crusade. Hmm.. They sounded interesting so I've decided to join! Hope it'll be 3-4 years of enriching and meaningful campus life! But most importantly, I pray that I'll be able to strengthen my relationship with God and I'll know the Bible more. Heh...

Things to do:
1. GEK1035 readings - India and Pakistan, Rise of India
2. EL1101E tutorial
3. SW1101E tutorial
4. MS1101E readings - Changing Japanese attitudes towards modernization

Oh my gosh, Mid term paper questions for Psychology are out! And I understand nothing about what it is saying. Good luck to me... Haiz...

I'm super stressed now.

Spent the entire evening reading the notes on India and Pakistan, highlighting important points, checking words up on the dictionary, searching for relevant historical facts on the net, and what was the end result? I didn't understand a word I was reading. Darn, wasted one whole evening.

South Asian studies is not the only disastrous module. Psychology was equally bad as well. I didn't understand a single thing that ang moh professor was teaching yesterday. It was about Biopsychology and there were all those terminology which I've never seen before until yesterday. With my scarce biology background, how am I going to ever understand what the whole thingy is about?! Haiz...

Am I really suitable to be an undergrad? I'm beginning to doubt myself already... Sigh!

Thank goodness I don't have to go to school tomorrow. Shall try to keep up with my readings. Think I should not come online that often anymore since the balloting of tutorials are done and everything is finalised. I guess I'll have to concentrate more on my studies now. May not be blogging as often anymore.

Till then!

Today's Malay Studies' lecture was on the concept of modernization and methodology. It was rather abstract and complex but the topic itself is interesting since modernization is vital in Singapore. The lecturer, whose name I have forgotten, is a very engaging speaker. That's great! Haha... Anyway, I went to the arts canteen after the lecture with YingFen to eat laksa. As delicious as usual! Heex... Oh gosh, it's so easy to get fat at NUS with all the food stalls and vending machines around. I should try to make myself lost around campus and climb more stairs to burn all the calories. Heh. :P

PM Lee Hsien Long mentioned about Jurong Secondary School yesterday at the National Day Rally! Great to hear my alma mater being praised and complimented at such an important speech. Heex... JSS has indeed transformed a lot since I graduated few years ago. Feeling nostalgic again. Haha...

It has been a long period of time since I last saw you... I tell myself once and again that I should move on; it's time to embark on a new life. But deep inside me lies that bit of sorrow and sadness which I can't remove. I often wonder what would have happened to us if I didn't commit that mistake years back. One wrong move on my part and it resulted in a lifetime of regrets. Sigh! One simply cannot afford to make any mistakes in life....

What hurts the most
Was being so close
And having so much to say
And watching you walk away
And never knowing
What could have been
And not seeing that loving you
Is what I was tryin' to do
Hmm.. Unhappy things aside, I'm going to watch Rush Hour 3 this Thursday! I simply love watching movies because it allows you to forget about everything in reality and immerse into the movie. Very theraputic! Haha... If I really do become a Psychologist in future, I'll ask all my clients to go watch movie. LOL!
I need to go shopping real soon! Lots of things which I need to buy.
1. Jeans
2. T-shirts
3. Wallet
4. Pens
5. Suitable footwear
6. Birthday presents
7. Stamps
8. Books
So many things to buy, but I've got no time! Darn, my timetable looks relaxing but my life is so hectic currently. Why is that so eh?
Was on the phone with Ah Bao just now. Glad to know that she's doing fine in Pahang now. Can't wait for her to come back to Singapore though she said she doesn't feel like coming back. Of course, to her, coming back to Singapore means returning to work 6 days a week. I really admire and respect people like her. It's the people at Sheng Siong who humble me and make me realise how fortunate I am. I thank God for the chance to work at Sheng Siong. The experience is really memorable :))
Think I should sleep now.

Finally, after one long week at school, the weekend is here. Didn't do anything meaningful though.

I saw Peter (the guy who works at ShengSiong) at the playground near my block just now. Gave me a shock when I saw him sitting alone on the slide in the dark. Wonder what he was doing there... Hmmm...

Anyway, I've been busy lately with all the readings and administrative things to settle. But I'm still quite light-hearted. Maybe because I'm studying modules which I like (except for the South Asia one.. Haha... ). And perhaps studying in NUS has been my dream since young and I'm so thankful to God for making this dream come true. I hope I will not let Him down.

I am thinking of joining Campus Crusade. Firstly, I can feel myself drifting further and further away from God and I seriously need to do something to salvage my spiritual life. Secondly, I think it's time for me to do something for God. I've been a Christian since primary school and yet I have never done anything to honour God. Perhaps it's the right time to do so now? Lastly, I think I should join at least one CCA to improve my dull and bland social life. Heh.

Watched Secret with Fleur yesterday. Nice show! Brought my respect and admiration for Jay Chou to an even higher level.

Got to sleep now. I've been sleeping at unearthly hours recently. Look at the time now! No wonder I can feel the heaviness of my eyelids. Haa. Good night! :)

This is the chicken kebab look-a-like thing which Wenxiu and I ate at the Middle-Eastern food stall at Business canteen. Didn't like it... =X

Yay! Pizza Hut cheese fondue! Ate this with Fleur last Sunday I think. It was heavenly but utterly sinful. Heex...

Sat on this trishaw last week when we were out with MeiYan at Esplanade. The uncle brought us from Esplanade to Raffles City. Nice experience! :))

Went to this place called Munchie Monkey at campus with Wenxiu yesterday before the crusade vision tea. The place was quite relaxing and they sold alcoholic drinks too! Next time if you fail exams, can go there to drown your sorrows. Haha! :P

My time-table is more or less out. Darn, I'll be going to school for all 5 days. That means my Johor trip will have to be held back till my holidays start. So disappointing :(

Hey, go this link to listen to this song. It's the themesong of the movie "Anna and the King". It's so touching and sad lar...

How can I not love you - Joy Enriquez

Cannot touch, Cannot hold, Cannot be together
Cannot love, Cannot kiss, Cannot love each other
Must be strong and we must let go
Cannot say what our hearts must know

How can I not love you
What do I tell my heart
When do I not want you here in my arms
How does one walks away
From all of the memories
How do I not miss you when you are gone

Cannot trip, Cannot share sweet and tender moments
Cannot feel how we feel, Must pretend it's over
Must be brave and we must go on,
Must not say what we no longer long

How can I not love you
What do I tell my heart
When do I not want you here in my arms
How does one walks away
From all of the memories
How do I not miss you when you are gone
How can I not love you

Must be brave and we must be strong
Cannot say what we no longer long

How can I not love you
What do I tell my heart
When do I not want you here in my arms
How does one walks away
From all of the memories
How do I not miss you when you are gone

How can I not love you
When you are gone

Got to run now. Meeting HuiMin and Crystal for breakfast before my Social Work lecture. Till then! :)

I've been rather happy for the past few days and it scares me. I've always been a pessimistic person since young and being happy for so many days isn't exactly something I'm familiar with. I'm afraid something might happen and take away all the happiness that I've been experiencing. I know it sounds appalling but I'd rather be sad for days and occassionally feel happy at random moments. When you're at your lowest point, there's no way to go anymore further down; things can only improve and not deterioriate. But when you're at your highest point, you can easily fall whenever anything changes. Sigh! I feel so uneasy these days about my happiness. The future is so uncertain and I absolutely hate uncertainties. Argh! I'm really sadistic. =X

I want to go to Johor with Ah Bao soon! But it's so hard because her off day is not fixed and I have to go to school 4 days a week now. =X

I saw SeeWai yesterday at Business canteen while I was having lunch with WenXiu! It's been such a long time since we last met. Oh man... I miss the good old times at secondary school. Haish... I feel so nostalgic each time I pass by Jurong Sec. Happy moments often pass by so quickly...

I hope the next 3/4 years of campus life will be meaningful and enriching... Sigh! I miss my usual close friends. :(

I think that Nationalism module sucked. I totally have no idea what the lecturer was talking about and his notes don't make any sense at all. Thank goodness WenXiu is taking this module with me, if not I think I'll surely perish within a semester. So irritated with the lecturer lah, he was talking to himself all the while. Hmph!

I don't like the fact that everything in university is computerised. The module informations, lecture notes, readings, timings, consent forms, assignments.... I need to go online almost everyday now. I'm someone who seriously lack discipline and hence, coming online = youtube, msn, friendster, gossips, and blogging(which I'm doing now, LOL!). I won't be able to complete all my tasks on time if everything has to be done online. Argh!

Oh my, I've got to participate in some research programmes by the Psychology department. To put it plainly, I have to be a guinea pig for their experiments. Haha.. Ok, perhaps I exaggerated a bit but ya, the idea is there. Shucks... Don't feel like going.

Sigh! Got to go do some readings. Sometimes I wonder whether I've made the right choice in choosing arts when I'm more used to the maths and sciences. =X

No lectures tomorrow! =)

Yesterday was officially the first day of school! I only had one lecture from 2pm-4pm. The lecture was damn slack lar. It was the Malay Studies lecture and the lecturer was late for 10mins. She just went through the different topics that we are going to learn for the next few weeks and at 3pm, she dismissed us - 1 hour earlier than the stated time! Haha... But she was quite nice and humourous. I made a new friend at the lecture too! She was from Hwa Chong... Wow... Intelligent person. Heh... By the way, I was lost at Eusoff Hall on the way home and only managed to find my way out after asking for directions from a few Bangalas. =X Typical lazy me decided to take a shortcut to lessen my walking distance. Haiz... Who knows, I ended up walking even more and under the freaking hot sun some more!

Sigh! I still miss those days when I can just sleep like nobody's business and walk over to Sheng Siong as though it's my second home. I miss lazing around at home without any sense of urgency. I miss not having anything to do and feeling bored. I miss holidays! Haiz... Things are different now. The next holiday I'll have is at the year-end. :(

Got to go library again later to photocopy things again. I printed out 80 over pages yesterday from the Psychology textbook and those were only for the 1st lecture. Oh man, I think I should just buy the textbook from the 2nd hand forum. Is it cheaper? Aiyo... So troublesome.

Yesterday was also the start of the Lunar 7th month. I wonder where my father is now. :(

Got to go now. I've got 2 lectures later on - English and Psychology! Can't wait for Psychology! :)

P/S: Anna and the King is such a great movie! I cried buckets while watching it lar. Haha... Chow Yun Fatt is so charismatic. A pity he didn't get to be with Jodie Foster in the end. It's amazing how their love for each other developed towards the end. Nice show!

An eventful day today!

Went to Esplanade in the afternoon to watch this musical called "The King and I". Aunty Swee Lan gave my sister and I tickets for the musical. We were sitted on the first row on the second floor. The view was clear and we were very near the stage. On the overall, the musical was great! Heex... Though I couldn't really make out what they were saying at some times. Their songs were very nice and professional too! :)

Went to meet Karen at Jurong Point after my dinner at home. It has been a long since we last chatted for so long. We bought bubble tea and walked many rounds around Jurong Point before finally settling down at Mcdonalds to talk. We sat around till 10.45pm before leaving. Heh... Glad to be able to catch up with her before lectures start.

After leaving Jurong Point, I went to wait for Ah Bao to end work. Heex... I didn't realise S11 sells stingray until Ah Bao told me! Yay! We both love to eat the spicy and hot stingray. Haha.. Must go and eat it again together some time. =)

Lectures are starting next week. Oh man... But lecture notes are not up yet. It's so irritating especially when my printer is spoilt and my computer is so lag. Darn... Anyway, these are the modules which I'm taking :
1. PL 1101E - Introduction to Psychology
2. SW1101E - Introduction to Social Work
3. EL1101E - The nature of Language
4. MS1101E - The modernisation of Malays
5. GEK1035 - Nation and Nationalism in South Asia
Hope I'll enjoy my modules, if not I'm really going to suffer. So many readings to do! =X

Thank goodness I wasn't sleeping at that time because I would have missed the opportunity to go supper with them. After they finished eating, Ah Bao walked me home. Haha... I'm so thankful to have met her in my short working stint at Sheng Siong. May our friendship endure the many differences that we have in our own lives. =)

Went for NUS Flag Day today! Reported at NUS first to collect the cans and t-shirt. After that, HuiMin and I went to Orchard. We asked for donations outside Far East Plaza for about 2 hours before going in to have lunch. We had lunch at my favourite noodle place! Heex... I love the dumpling noodles. Then we walked to Heeren to buy CDs! Thanks to HuiMin's generosity with her vouchers, I got to buy Andy Lau's latest CD at only $1.9o! With the money saved, I bought a very old CD of Andy Lau! So happy! Haha... Then we went to Toa Payoh to return HuiMin's can and then to Harbourfront to return mine. Woah, tiring day but I really had fun! :):)

The ambience was nice eh...

My first time trying Sakae. Didn't like it... =X

This fish thingy was delicious!

This was kinda like those steamboat thing. They used a certain type of paper to hold the water and food. Woah!

I liked this! You can swallow the whole fish without leaving out the head or bones. Excellent for lazy people like me. Heh.

Today is my brother's 4th Birthday! We had an early celebration yesterday for him. Aunty Swee Lan bought an ice-cream cake from Swensons! It was really delicious.

The ice-cream cake. It must have cost a bomb... So generous of Aunty Swee Lan.

Heh... Celebrated mine as well.... 1 big and 9 small candles to represent my age. Haish... Old already. Time flies...
Look at what my brother received from Aunty Monica. This is just 1 of the MANY presents that he received. Lucky kid. Heh...
These are my presents from Aunty Swee Lan. Haha... She's really generous!

A notebook!

A pair of "My Kind and I" musical at the Esplanade for me and my sister. Each ticket cost 70bucks eh... =X

A Nike water bottle! Came at the right time because I was searching for a new bottle too. =)

Bidding results were out yesterday. I successfully got into my 4 choices!

1. PL1101E Introduction to Psychology

2. SW1101E Introduction to Social Work

3. EL1101E The Nature of Language

4. MS1101E The Modernisation of the Malays

Very thankful that I got into Psychology! Wonder whether I'll be able to cope with the modules. Hmm... Will be bidding for GEMs next Monday. Hopefully I'll get into Introduction to world religions. Yups. School is really starting! Final Exams arrive in 13 weeks' time. Woah... I guess university life will be very hectic. Wait, will I even have a life?

The birthday wish which I mentioned before in my past entry will never come true anymore. My heart still hurts a bit whenever I think of what happened. But as days go by, I can feel the pain and sorrow lessen gradually. I thought we could be great friends but I was wrong. Perhaps God has a better plan. Sigh!

O Week Orientation Day 1 today. The activities were alright and the seniors were really of great help when we went for bidding. The campus tour games were quite interesting. There was one section where we had to pass a sponge with our mouths to fill up the water bottle. Heh... Sounds gross but it was quite fun. Anyway, I'm skipping tomorrow and Saturday's one because I'm lazy to wake up so early and I hate squeezing in the packed bus. Been suffering for the past few days on bus service 183 lah! Oh yah, I just found out that I have a direct bus from my house to NUS! I didn't know bus service 30 can bring me to school until yesterday. Now I can save all the hassle of transferring bus. Great! Heex...

I'm so happy yesterday during tuition because my tuition kid scored full marks for his maths class test! From a fail to full marks! It's such a tremendous jump. Though I can't claim much credit for his improvement, I'm still happy that he has improved. This is the first time I feel a little bit of satisfaction from being a tuition teacher. Heh...

On 4th of August 2003, God gave me a very significant and precious gift. This gift has brought lots of laughter and excitement into my life albeit the occasional irritations and frustrations. Sometimes, I find it a burden rather than a blessing because it has taken a lot of my time but at the end of the day, I still love and adore this gift a lot. Every night before I sleep, I give my thanks to God for this wonderful and beautiful gift -
my little brother. :):)

Damn, I'm still fretting over the blardee CORS system. I sure hope nothing goes wrong and I can get my desired modules. *Praying very hard...

Alright, it's very late now. Shall blog again when I'm free.

Amazing how one single sms can affect my entire mood. I should have expected it when I lashed out at that person but I still feel sad. Yes, it's always my fault that things go wrong. I'm nothing but a piece of junk. I'm tired of apologising already.

Haish... I need some time to sort things out. I'm very, very sad now. :(

Been busy these few days with university admission stuffs. So many things to settle, and there's this orientation week coming up. School's not started yet but I've got to go to campus everyday throughout this week. Darn...

We quarrelled again. I have a bad feeling that things will never be the same again. I hope the hectic school life will somehow help me to forget everything that happened. I can feel the same hurt and sorrow inside me again. Haiz...

Anyway, don't think I'll have the time to blog for the next few days or following week. Will be back again soon after I've settled down.
